Cozumel - Splendid Toadfish |
|
Cozumel You will never tire of diving in Cozumel. The large majority of divers who come will come again many times over the years. It is habit-forming!
The underwater wildlife is absolutely amazing here & due to the clarity of the water (100 - 200 ft visibility, depending on the season); you do not have to be a diver to enjoy it. Simply put on a mask & snorkel and jump in & you will feel like you have been dropped into a tropical fish tank!!
Cozumel is Mexico's largest island measuring 28 miles by 10 miles, and it is located approx. 12 miles off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula. It is famous for its white sand beaches and very clear water ideally suited to scuba diving and snorkeling. The water and reefs around Cozumel have been declared an underwater marine park to protect the environment. Numerous underwater limestone caves are also found in these crystal clear waters.
Language : English is widely spoken in Cozumel, but Spanish is the official language. A small percent still speak some Mayan on the island.
Climate: The climate in Cozumel is subtropical, so expect some rain during most of the year, plenty of tropical breezes (which may require a light jacket in the evenings) and sunshine. The rainy season begins in May and last through September; however, many days are still very dive-able.
Water Temp : The water temperature averages 77 degrees in the winter and 85 in summer. Although these temperatures sound warm and cozy, a light to medium wetsuit or skin may be needed.
Time Zone: Cozumel is on the Central time zone.
